The circle method, without the mystique
A standard single round-robin for an even number of teams takes n − 1 game days, with n / 2 games per day if you have enough courts or fields. The generator keeps one team fixed and rotates the rest so pairings stay unique.
Odd team counts need a bye each round. If your software silently drops a team, you will notice in week three when someone has two fewer games.
What Leagzr actually generates
- One round-robin per division (and a pool for teams with no division).
- Game days placed on a daily, weekly, or monthly cadence you configure.
- Parallel slots and padding so back-to-back gym games do not overlap.
- A repeat of the same pairings if you request more days than one full pass.
That is enough for most amateur seasons. You still edit individual games when a venue disappears—generation is the draft, not a lock.
After the grid exists
Pairings only become a league when scores flow into standings. Use the standings guide next, then playoff formats if you need a knockout round.
Frequently asked questions
- What does a round-robin generator do?
- It pairs every team in a pool against every other team once (or more, if you repeat the pass) without you drawing matchups by hand.
- How does Leagzr generate round-robins?
- It uses the circle method: keep the first team fixed and rotate the others. Divisions schedule as separate pools. Extra game days repeat the round-robin.
